Auto-Mastering
Privacy policy
This policy explains what the Auto-Mastering app ("the app") and its plans page handle, why, and what you can do about it. The app is run by Soundliminal LLC, trading as Sound Pro Academy ("we", "us"). You can reach us at a.administration@soundproacademy.com.
The short version
- Your audio files are never uploaded. The whole master is made in your browser, on your computer.
- To work out the settings for a master, the app sends us a few hundred numbers describing each track. They describe the sound; they cannot be turned back into it, and we do not keep them.
- The app is for members of Music Production Mastery, our community on Skool; we check your email against its member list.
- Your account is a Sound Pro Academy account. We keep your email address, your plan, how many masters you have started each month, and your list of masters (file names, settings and results), so it is the same in every browser you sign in from.
- We only send you tips and offers if you ticked the box for them, and you can unsubscribe from any of those emails.
- We do not sell your data, and the app runs no advertising or analytics trackers.
1. Your audio
The files you drop into the app, your mix and your reference track, are read by your browser and processed on your own computer: decoding, analysis, EQ, compression, saturation, limiting and writing the finished file. They are not sent to us or to anyone else, and neither is the master.
2. What we receive
Track measurements. When you prepare a master, the app sends our decision service a summary of each track: loudness figures, a smoothed curve of its frequency balance, how dynamic and how wide each frequency band is, and its duration. We use these only to calculate the settings for your master and send them back. We do not store them. So that one song counts once against your monthly allowance however many times you adjust it, we store a one-way fingerprint (a hash) of the measurements for that song, with the month. The fingerprint cannot be used to recover the measurements or the audio.
Account details. Auto-Mastering uses Sound Pro Academy accounts, the same ones as the Academy's member portal, so one email address signs you in to both. When you create an account, we hold your email address and the sign-in data our authentication provider needs, your plan and when it renews or ends, and the number of masters you have started each month. Your address is also added to the Academy's contact list, noted as having come from Auto-Mastering, so that we know who our customers are and can answer them.
Community membership. Auto-Mastering is for members of Music Production Mastery, our community on Skool. To check that you are one, we keep the email addresses on the community's member list (from Skool's member export, and added automatically when someone joins) and compare your account's email with it. We use that list only for this check and to run the community.
Your list of masters. So that "My masters" is the same in every browser and on every computer you sign in from, we keep it with your account: for each master, the names of the two files, the settings you chose, the finished loudness and peak figures, the plan it was made on, whether it was downloaded, the fingerprint described above, and when it was last saved. Not the audio. We keep the newest 200. Removing a master in the app deletes its details from your account; only its two file names and the time of the removal are kept, for up to six months, so that an out-of-date browser cannot bring it back. Deleting your account deletes the whole list.
Signing in. We sign you in by emailing you a one-time code and link. When you ask for one, we record the address, the time and a scrambled (hashed) form of your network address, and delete that record after one day. It exists only to stop the form being used to flood someone's inbox.
Tips and offers. If you tick the box for them when you sign in, we record that you agreed, once you have confirmed the address with the code or link, and send you emails about mixing, mastering and our products. Each one has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect your account.
Payments. Payments are taken by our payment provider, or for the Premium membership by the community platform it is sold through. We do not receive or store your card details. We receive confirmation of your subscription so that Pro can be switched on for your account.
Messages. If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can answer it.
Technical logs. The companies that host the app keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the time of each request, to run and secure their services.
3. What is kept on your device
- My masters. Your browser keeps a copy of your list of masters, so it appears straight away, and the two audio files for the most recent 20 masters made in that browser, so you can reopen them. The audio is never sent to us, and stays in the browser that made the master. Removing a master deletes its files; clearing your browser data for the app removes the files and the copy, while the list itself stays with your account. Back up saves the list, without the audio, to a file you keep.
- Preferences. Small settings, such as whether the sidebar is folded, are kept in the same place.
- Sign-in. If you are signed in, our authentication provider keeps a session token in your browser so you stay signed in.
None of these are advertising or tracking cookies, and the app sets none of those.
4. Why we use it
If you are in the UK or the European Union, these are the legal bases we rely on:
- To provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract): the measurements, your account, your plan and your monthly count.
- Our legitimate interests: keeping the service secure, stopping abuse of the sign-in form, and making sure plan limits are applied fairly.
- Your consent: tips and offers by email, only if you ticked the box. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link.
- Legal obligations: keeping the payment records that tax and accounting law require.
5. Who we share it with
Only the services that run the app for us, each of which may use the data only to provide that service:
- Supabase, which hosts our database, sign-in and decision service;
- Resend, which sends our sign-in and account emails;
- Netlify, which hosts the app and this website;
- our payment provider, and the community platform for the Premium membership;
- Google Fonts and esm.sh, which serve the app's typefaces and code libraries and see your IP address as part of delivering them.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
6. International transfers
These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on the safeguards they offer for such transfers, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account details, plan and usage records for as long as your account is open. When you ask us to close it, we delete them within 30 days, except for records we must keep for tax or legal reasons. Records of sign-in emails are deleted after one day.
8. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive it in a portable form, or to stop or limit how we use it. Email a.administration@soundproacademy.com and we will reply within 30 days. If you are in the UK or the EU and are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
9. Children
The app is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
